I’m starting to become concerned I’m spamming my progress now, so I won’t post any more until I’m done inking.
The heaviest lines of the imps are done and the rest of them will be inked with a pen. The reason for this is going back to the shape hierarchy from earlier. Additionally, the imps are simpler in design from John, so they don’t have as many details or important lines.
When inking, most people will tell you that you should begin in the upper left-hand corner of the image and work your way down to the bottom-right hand corner (top-right to bottom-left for our southpaw friends). The reason for this is so that you do not accidentally smudge any wet ink with your hand as you move across the page.
While this is very sound advice, I personally will start with the focus of the picture (John, in this case) and then work into the smaller details of the image from there. It’s another one of those “this works for me” kind of things.
I will admit I have smudged my fair share of ink, but I’m a lot better at navigating my pen now than I used to!
